On the banks of river Narmada is the industrial town of Bharuch; the cradle of Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers Company Limited (GNFC). Promoted jointly by Government of Gujarat and Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd, GNFC came into existence on May 10, 1976. Since then the Company hasn't looked back and put the entire Southern belt of Gujarat including Bharuch on the industrial and Chemicals map of India.

 

GNFC established itself firmly with diversified product portfolio from its initial fertilizer business to chemicals and later to Information Technology. GNFC plants have been operating consistently above the installed capacities, year after year, which is a testimony to its plant and operation capabilities. The devotion of employees and their innovation and creativity defies vintage and other state of affairs of large chemical plants. All together bear the onus of productivity and profitability of the organization.

Quest for Growth
There is more to GNFC than what meets the eye. Fertilizers business is only a part of the company's growing sphere of activities. In fact, industrial chemicals have been the dominant driver of growth for the GNFC during the recent times. GNFC has also made a foray into the arena of e-security towards potential future growth in the info tech sector. At GNFC, the quest for the growth is inherent and insatiable. The tradition of high production levels and growth is envisioned clearly.
As a part of an evolved strategic thrust, the focus is on consolidating and driving growth through core competencies., absorbing technologies from the world's leading technology providers and latching on to business areas with high potential. Fresh and dynamic business outlook is in the DNA of GNFC.
GNFC has to its credit a dedicated, committed, creative, innovative and motivated workforce. The management and the employees at all levels and therefore the company have been able to withstand the challenges in its journey of over 30 years.

Core Business Areas
Chemicals
GNFC has earmarked its presence in a wide range of chemicals. GNFC is one source supply for many industrial chemicals for various industries across India.  In fact an entire chemical belt, popularly known as the Golden Corridor has developed along the Southern Gujarat Coast.
GNFC is India's largest producer of Formic Acid, Acetic Acid, Methanol and Aniline. The company enjoys the privilege of being India's only manufacturer of Glacial Acetic Acid through cutting edge Methanol route. In the entire South East Asia and Africa region, GNFC is the only producer of Toluene Di-Isocyanate (TDI). Other products manufactured at GNFC's facilities include Concentrated Nitric Acid, Weak Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate Melt and Methyl Formate. In association with Engineers India Ltd (EIL), GNFC has developed, an efficient Sulphur Recovery Process, which is patented under the name of Catsol.
GNFC is in the process of executing various new projects, which include 50,000 MTPA TDI project at Dahej, Co Generation Power and Steam unit , 300 MTPD Weak Nitric Acid II Plant and 150 MTPDA Concentrated Nitric Acid Plant. Other projects to be carried out are revamp of ammonium synthesis loop by S-50 Converter, installation of molecular sieve in Ammonia Plant, 10000 MTPA TDI revamp project, N20 Abatement project and Acetic Acid reactor replacement.

Fertilizers
The Company has dedicated itself to a better agricultural yield for the benefit of the farmers and the Country. GNFC has a presence in all major types of fertilizers, viz Urea, Ammonium Nitro Phosphate and Calcium Ammonium Nitrate. The Company also imports and trades Single Super Phosphate, Muriate of Potash, Urea and Di-Ammonium Phosphate. GNFC considers its marketing network as an aid to reach out to the rural community, especially the farmers and works towards their betterment.
GNFC provides free of cost facility of Soil Testing to the farming community, organizes demonstration farm and Plant visits of farmers, 5 model NKSK in Gujarat provide the farmers touch screen facility of  a computer kiosk to access agricultural information. GNFC has also developed its own tissue culture laboratory and also publishes Narmada Kisan Parivar Patra, a Magazine in Gujarati and Hindi to provide scientific information about recent advancement in the field of agriculture.

Information Technology
The Company on one hand is engaged in improving the quality of life in villages and with its IT initiatives, is focused to provide a better life in the global village. Through world-class Internet Security Technology Solution (n) Code, GNFC is ensuring reliable and non-repudiable e-transactions.
GNFC believes in a continual endeavor to discover eco-friendly processes, procedures and systems; while emphasizing on safety and health. GNFC has been awarded ISO 14001 and OHSAS 180001 certificate by TUVNORD for the Company's Environment Management System and Occupational Health and Safety Management System in the entire campus respectively. GNFC has retained world renowned agency in the field of safety to examine the present plant maintenance and operations practices. In this highly competitive scenario, the Company has recognized the need and importance of RandD to stay ahead of competition. Its well-equipped RandD Center is the backbone of the Company's success.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
GNFC is conscious towards its obligations towards the Society and as a Responsible Corporate, has contributed actively for the social upliftment. The employees of the company and their families render voluntary services in the Company's promoted NGO - Narmadanagar Rural Development Society (NARDES), which is active for the last 30 years. NARDES has become a beacon of hope for the downtrodden in the Bharuch District. GNFC has established Narmada Education and Scientific Research Society (NEST), which conducts various graduate/post graduate courses. GNFC has an English and Gujarati medium school in the stream of Science, Commerce and Arts, affiliated to Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan. Recent CSR initiatives are

  • Healthy and Happy Child up to 5 years of age to minimize mortality, morbidity and Malnutrition
  • Thalassemia Prevention Programme by blood testing of 62400 students through Indian Red Cross Society.
  • Renovation of Public Health Centre, CHCs and Construction of Sub Centres for improving health of people.
  • Potable drinking water through 63 RO plants and 'Swajaldhara' Scheme.
  • Assisting in imparting training to village computer entrepreneur for e-gram.
  • Helping in examnsion and revitalization of Vivekanand Gramin Tekniki Kendra of Sewa Rural, Zaghadia.
  • Efficient use of Fertilizers in 32 villages.
    It is earnestly hoped that GNFC efforts towards Corporate Social Responsibilities will go a long way in overall improving health, education sports and socio-economic conditions of the society.
